Our Story
Cafe Rio began as a dream to bring the authentic flavors of Mexico to the heart of Portland. Founded in 1997 by Maria and Carlos Rodriguez, our restaurant started as a small family kitchen with a big vision: to share the traditional recipes passed down through generations.
What started with just five tables and handmade tortillas has grown into Portland's beloved destination for fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine. We've maintained our commitment to using only the finest ingredients, traditional cooking methods, and the warmth of Mexican hospitality.
Today, Cafe Rio continues to be family-owned and operated, serving our community with the same passion and authenticity that started it all over 25 years ago.

The Beginning
Maria and Carlos Rodriguez opened Cafe Rio with just five tables, serving authentic Mexican dishes made from family recipes passed down through generations.
First Expansion
Growing popularity led to our first renovation, doubling our seating capacity and adding our signature outdoor patio with colorful Mexican tiles.
